Mission Hospital Xray: Funded, Installed, and Operating

Project Goal: $10,550
Description: Essential to providing good medical care is the ability to establish a correct diagnosis, which is why every hospital must have xray capabilities. Sadly, La Gonave's only hospital is without xray, severely compromising the level of care they can provide to the 100,000 people who live on that island. Without xray capacity, treatments of injuries and illnesses often are based on guesswork. As the sad result, patients suffer. Sometimes they die.

Among our first steps in improving the quality of life for these precious people is to restore at least a basic level of hospital care. Xray equipment will do this, immediately improving care. Saving limbs, saving lives.
Status Update:

October 28, 2010. Effective today LaGonave's only hospital has a fully functional xray. Installation and calibration have been completed and Xray technical staff have received in-servicing. Today, the standard of living on LaGonave edged up a bit. Another starfish rescued!

August 21, 2010. The xray equipment was released from customs in Port-au-Prince this week and has made safe passage across the sea to the island. Having been safely delivered to the hospital, we now await installation... and use!

May 28. Fully funded. Thank you! The order for the new xray equipment has been placed and we are on the manufacturer's "production schedule" for the last week of June. Shipping arrangements have been made and we expect a fairly quick delivery of the equipment to Haiti. After it arrives at the hospital on La Gonave, World Medical Mission (the medical arm of Samaritan's Purse) will send an engineer down to install it. Updates to follow.
